Necks and sides.

Finally finished reducing the sides down to 2mm.
I cut up the neck blanks as can be seen in this picture.

I have started putting the necks together, that will take a good few hours yet and I think I will bend the sides before carving the necks.

Anyway here are all the parts I have made and shows where I am up to in pictures rather than me trying to put it all into text.

Truss rod

How to change the length of a truss rod I had that was too long.

First remove the rod from the aluminium sleeve and mark the rod, at the fixed end, at the length you want. Place the rod in a good strong vice at the point you marked with the fixed end pointing upwards. Ensure the vice is tight and bend the rod with the aid of a hammer until you have a 90 degree bend. Cut most of the waste part off leaving a few millimeters spare just after the bend.
With the aluminium sleeve drill a 5.5mm hole in the bottom of the U shape at the length you want. Saw off the waste aluminium right on the edge of the 5mm hole.
Put the truss rod back together and bend the two side parts of the sleeve to stop the rod coming out of the hole. The whole process takes less than 2 minutes and works perfectly. See pictures below.

Been very busy.

I have finished all the bracing and made the head and tail block for the steel string and just a tail block for the classical because the head block for the classical is part of the neck, I have glued the head and tail blocks to the soundboards. I have reduced the sides for the classical down to 2.1mm and will leave it at that.

So I just have to reduce the sides for the steel string down to about 2mm and then bend the sides for both guitars. I have made the bridge for the classical but not the steel string one yet, I have the bridge blank for it so just need to carve it. Once that is all done it just leaves putting it all together.
No photographs this time because I am tired and cannot be bothered. I’ll do twice as many next time.
